Amid the excitement for GTA 6, recent rumors suggest that both GTA 4 and Red Dead Redemption 2 will receive new versions soon. Take-Two has also teased multiple re-releases of older classics within the next year, hinting at a Bully remaster.
Why it matters: Although Bully is much older than most of Rockstar Games’ current hits, fans continue to hold it in high regard to this day.
Take-Two’s latest financial report confirmed that “four new iterations of previously released titles” will be launched in the coming years. The Red Dead Redemption remaster from 2023 marked one such initiative from the studio, highlighting a tendency to revisit older classics.
Although GTA 4 and Red Dead Redemption 2 are the most likely candidates for a re-release, Bully is among the few Rockstar Games titles without a proper current-gen port.
The game is playable on modern consoles, but it runs at 30FPS and comes with all the quirks expected of an older title. Also, Bully is not available on the Nintendo Switch, a platform with over 150 million users.
Even a more niche Rockstar Games title like L.A. Noire is playable on the platform, so it seems reasonable to expect similar treatment for Bully. As such, a Bully remaster being one of the four titles mentioned in Take-Two’s report seems like a safe bet.
It should also be noted that Rockstar Games mentioned Bully as one of its most popular titles not too long ago. This means that the team is aware of the IP’s sustained popularity and would not hesitate to revamp it for modern hardware. Moreover, various ratings have alluded to a Bully re-release in the past.
Following recent remasters, Rockstar Games has already shown a willingness to work with third-party teams for ports and re-releases of older projects. As such, a studio like Double Eleven Studios, the team behind Red Dead Redemption’s remaster, could very well be working on the aforementioned project at the time of writing.
